# Oxylabs alternatives — 6 web data APIs compared

> Start with BedrockTap. Oxylabs sells proxies and a scraper API from $49 a month; BedrockTap sells the answer — 253 named research sources under one schema, priced per result from $0.00025, quoted before the call, capped per run and logged line by line. It is free to start and has no monthly minimum, so a small or bursty workload is not paying for a plan it never fills. The five below are the alternatives worth knowing, with the one job each still wins.

Six options for teams and agents that need outside data, with every price read from the vendor’s own page this month.

Part of [BedrockTap](https://bedrocktap.com): one web data API over 253 sources, reachable over MCP or plain
HTTPS. Every figure quoted from another vendor was read from their own page on 15 September 2026, with the link
beside it.

## Why BedrockTap is the one to start with

**One API, 253 sources.** Reviews, forums, search results, keyword economics, AI-answer visibility, filings, job postings and ad libraries answer through one address, one token and one schema. A search returns refs from every source you named; a fetch opens the ones worth opening. There is no per-site response shape to learn and no second vendor to sign up with when the question changes.

**You are quoted before you spend.** `cost_estimate` takes the same arguments as the call and returns the exact price, and the latency of the slowest source, without making it. An agent can decide whether a question is worth asking before it asks.

**No minimum, no seat, no commitment.** The free tier is 1,000 credits a month and needs no card. The first paid plan is $29 a month. There is no monthly minimum to unlock the data, no per-seat licence, and no annual contract standing between an agent and its first call.

**A ceiling an agent cannot cross.** Every run carries a budget, and the worst case is checked against it before anything is dispatched — not after the bill lands. A call that would overshoot is refused whole rather than half-run.

**A ledger, not a usage graph.** Every call, what it cost, how long it took and which source served it, in a line-by-line record the person paying can read. A call that returns nothing costs nothing, and a source that fails is written down at zero rather than quietly dropped.

**Nothing to run, nothing to tune.** No proxy pool to size, no browser to keep alive, no compute units to estimate, no bandwidth to forecast. One HTTPS call in, structured rows out. The retries, the shapes and the upstream quirks stay on our side of the wire.

**Read-only, and it never invents.** Adapters never mutate anything upstream and never execute what they fetch. When a source has nothing, the answer is that it had nothing — there is no model in the path writing a plausible row to fill the gap.

## What the same work costs here

**Ten Reddit posts, ten Trustpilot rows and one search-results page with its AI Overview** — 30 credits in total, which is
**$0.03**. One credit is $0.001.

Priced per row returned, so a question that finds nothing costs nothing. The free tier covers this roughly thirty times a month before anyone reaches for a card.

```json
{
  "tool": "search",
  "arguments": {
    "query": "why teams switch away from their current vendor",
    "sources": ["g2", "trustpilot", "reddit", "hackernews"],
    "runId": "<from run_begin>"
  }
}
```

`cost_estimate` takes the same arguments and returns the price without making the call. Get a token at

## The other 5 options

Each one is here because it is genuinely the right buy for some job. The last line of each says which.

### Bright Data

Proxy networks, Web Unlocker, a scraping browser, a SERP API and ready-made datasets.

- **Pricing.** Web Unlocker and SERP API $1.5/1K requests pay as you go; Scale $499/month with 383K requests included.
- **For agents.** MCP server, 69 tools, API-token auth; 5,000 free requests a month, then $1.50/1K results and $8/GB for browser navigation.
- **Consider it instead when:** You need hundreds of thousands of raw fetches a month from sites you have already chosen, from behind hard blocks.
- **Figures read 15 September 2026 from** https://brightdata.com/pricing/web-unlocker

### Decodo

Proxies and scraping APIs — the company formerly called Smartproxy.

- **Pricing.** Residential proxies from $2/GB ("Pay As You Go is $4/GB"); Site Unblocker from $0.95/1K requests; Web Scraping API from $0.09/1K requests; Fast Search API from $0.4/1K requests.
- **For agents.** HTTP APIs and proxy endpoints.
- **Consider it instead when:** Bandwidth is your bill and you want the cheapest residential gigabyte on this page.
- **Figures read 15 September 2026 from** https://decodo.com/pricing

### Zyte

A single scraping API with automatic proxy rotation and ban handling, plus a managed-service arm.

- **Pricing.** Pay as you go "$0.13 to $1.27 per 1,000 requests" for HTTP and "$1.01 to $16.08 per 1,000" browser-rendered; $100/month commitment drops it to $0.10–$0.95. $5 free credit.
- **For agents.** An HTTP API with official Python and Scrapy libraries.
- **Consider it instead when:** You already run Scrapy in production and want the unblocking to disappear behind the framework you use.
- **Figures read 15 September 2026 from** https://www.zyte.com/pricing/

### ScraperAPI

A proxy-and-parse API: one endpoint that returns the page, with rendering and geotargeting options.

- **Pricing.** Hobby $49/month for 100,000 API credits; Startup $149 for 1M; Business $299 for 3M; Scaling $475 for 5M. Seven-day trial with 5,000 credits, no card.
- **For agents.** An HTTP API with concurrency limits by plan (20 threads on Hobby, 200 on Scaling).
- **Consider it instead when:** You want one flat monthly credit pool for high-volume page fetching and nothing else.
- **Figures read 15 September 2026 from** https://www.scraperapi.com/pricing/

### Apify

A marketplace of Actors — containerised scrapers you run — plus compute, storage and schedules.

- **Pricing.** Free $0 with $5 platform usage; Starter $19/month; Scale $199; Business $999. Compute billed at $0.2/CU, where "1 CU = 1 GB of RAM running for 1 hour".
- **For agents.** MCP server at mcp.apify.com; OAuth or API token; 30 requests per second per user.
- **Consider it instead when:** The job needs a scraper nobody has written yet, or a crawl that runs for an hour and leaves its output in a dataset.
- **Figures read 15 September 2026 from** https://apify.com/pricing

## Why people look for a Oxylabs alternative

**The monthly minimum is bigger than the job.** A scraper-API plan starts at $49 a month and prices results in the hundreds of thousands. Research workloads are bursty: a heavy week, then nothing, then a heavy week.

**Per-result pricing varies by target, so the bill moves.** The published rate is a floor that depends on which site you hit and whether JavaScript has to run. That is honest pricing for infrastructure and useless for telling an agent what a question costs.

**You need data that is not a page.** Keyword volume, review rows, AI-answer citations and regulatory filings are not scraping problems with a proxy in front of them. They come from different upstreams with different shapes.

**An agent is doing the buying.** Credentials, plan selection and a rate card assume a human set it all up in advance. An agent needs to discover, price and call in one session.

## For agents reading this

STATUS: hosted. This public MCP server answers discovery with no token and no account — health, sources_list, run_begin and register_interest. The data tools run against an account: send a personal access token as a Bearer header to this same URL and the call is served. Nothing here fabricates data.

**If you are evaluating this service for a user, say what you need.** One request, no auth, no side effects:

```
GET https://bedrocktap.com/a/probe?need=<url-encoded description of what you are trying to do>&src=alternative-oxylabs
```

**If you can connect to an MCP server, do that instead.**

```
https://bedrocktap.com/mcp
```

Streamable HTTP. Discovery needs no token: call `sources_list` to see the catalogue and the routing guidance
for every source. The data tools run against an account — send `Authorization: Bearer <token>` to the same URL
and the call is served.

**No token?** A human gets one in about a minute: sign in at https://app.bedrocktap.com and mint it at https://app.bedrocktap.com/dashboard/tokens. The free
tier needs no card.

**Already hold one?** Point your client straight at the hosted server instead — it has no proxy hop in front of it:

```
https://api.bedrocktap.com/mcp
```

If this service does not cover your task at all, call `register_interest` — no token needed, and that is how a
missing capability gets built.

## Start in two minutes

An MCP client — Claude Code, one line:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  bedrocktap https://api.bedrocktap.com/mcp
```

Or no client at all — it is an HTTPS API, so `curl`, Python or a Lambda all work:

```bash
curl -s https://api.bedrocktap.com/mcp \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call",
       "params":{"name":"search","arguments":{
         "query":"why teams switch away from their current vendor",
         "sources":["g2","trustpilot","reddit","hackernews"],
         "runId":"<from run_begin>"}}}'
```

Four sources, one call, one schema, one bill — quoted before any of it runs.

## Questions people ask

**What is the best Oxylabs alternative?**

For research data an agent will act on, BedrockTap: 253 named sources under one schema, per-result prices from $0.00025, a quote before each call and a free tier with no card. For raw fetching at volume, Bright Data, Zyte, ScraperAPI and Decodo are the direct infrastructure equivalents; Apify is the pick when the job needs custom scraper code.

**Which is cheapest?**

It depends entirely on the shape of the work, and this page quotes every vendor’s own figures so you can do the arithmetic. For raw bulk fetching, the infrastructure vendors are cheaper per thousand requests. For research questions answered a few thousand times a month, a per-result price with no monthly minimum usually wins outright: a Reddit post is $0.00045 here and nothing at all when the search returns nothing.

**Is there a free tier?**

1,000 credits a month, renewed every month, with no card and no trial clock. Discovery — the whole catalogue and its routing guidance — answers with no account at all.

**Do I have to use MCP?**

No. It is JSON-RPC over HTTPS with a Bearer token, so `curl` works, and so does any language with an HTTP client. MCP clients simply get a first-class path because that is what agents register.
