This is a live MCP server. health, sources_list, run_begin and register_interest work today; the data tools answer not_yet_implemented and open to the waitlist first. Nothing here fabricates data.

Routing guidance

What an agent reads to decide whether pypi is the right source, and what to reach for when it is not.

Answers: The same adoption and health question as `npm`, for Python — which is where most AI and data tooling now lands first.
Query shape: A package name, or a classifier and keyword search.
Cost: Free.
Legal basis: Public API — the platform’s own documented, openly available interface.
Latency: Fast.
Prefer instead: `npm` for JavaScript. `huggingface` when the artefact is a model rather than a package.
Cannot answer: Downloader identity or production usage, for the same reasons as `npm`.
Caveat: Download statistics come from a separate aggregation with its own lag and its own mirror problem.
