Semrush alternatives

Six ways to get SEO and AI-answer data, with every price read from the vendor’s own page this month.

If the work is done by a person in a dashboard, a suite is worth its seat. If the work is done by an agent — or by a script, a spreadsheet or a report nobody wants to log in for — start with BedrockTap: keyword volume, difficulty, cost per click and intent at $0.006 a row, a live search-results page with its AI Overview at $0.0105, and one prompt checked against an AI answer engine at $0.01515, with no seat, no subscription floor and a free tier that needs no card. The five below are the alternatives worth knowing, with the job each still wins.

Why BedrockTap is the one to start with

One API, 253 sources

Reviews, forums, search results, keyword economics, AI-answer visibility, filings, job postings and ad libraries answer through one address, one token and one schema. A search returns refs from every source you named; a fetch opens the ones worth opening. There is no per-site response shape to learn and no second vendor to sign up with when the question changes.

Priced per call, not per person

A plan here is an allowance of credits, not a number of seats. Nobody is billed for having access, a second analyst costs nothing, and an agent working nights is not a licence violation. Run the numbers once a quarter and pay for that; run them daily and pay for that instead.

No minimum, no seat, no commitment

The free tier is 1,000 credits a month and needs no card. The first paid plan is $29 a month. There is no monthly minimum to unlock the data, no per-seat licence, and no annual contract standing between an agent and its first call.

You are quoted before you spend

`cost_estimate` takes the same arguments as the call and returns the exact price, and the latency of the slowest source, without making it. An agent can decide whether a question is worth asking before it asks.

A ledger, not a usage graph

Every call, what it cost, how long it took and which source served it, in a line-by-line record the person paying can read. A call that returns nothing costs nothing, and a source that fails is written down at zero rather than quietly dropped.

The routing is part of the product

Every source states, in the catalogue itself, what it answers, how to shape the query, what it cannot answer and which neighbouring source to prefer instead. `sources_list` returns all of it with no account, so an agent chooses correctly the first time instead of learning by spending.

What the same work costs here

500 keywords, 20 search-results pages and 50 prompts checked against one AI engine — 3,967.5 credits in total, which is $3.97. One credit is $0.001.

Once, on demand, with no subscription underneath it and no seat to buy. Run it again next quarter and pay the same again — or never, and pay nothing.

"query": "mcp server for market research",

cost_estimate takes the same arguments and returns the price without making the call. Get a token at app.bedrocktap.com/dashboard/tokens; the free tier needs no card.

The other 5 options

Each one is here because it is genuinely the right buy for some job. The last line of each card says which.

Ahrefs

An SEO suite built on its own crawler: backlink index, site audit, rank tracking and keyword research.

Pricing. Starter $29/month; Lite $129; Standard $249; Advanced $449; Enterprise $1,499 on an annual commitment. Extra users $40–$80/month. Brand Radar AI, which tracks AI prompts, starts at $199/month.

For agents. API and MCP access included on the paid plans.

Consider it instead when: You need a backlink index and a site auditor — nobody on this page has one except the suites.

SE Ranking

An SEO platform with a rank tracker, AI-search trackers and a standalone data API.

Pricing. Standalone API plan "From € 155.00 /mo", annual billing only. A 14-day trial covers 10 projects, 750 tracked keywords a day and 20 AI prompts a day.

For agents. MCP connection to AI assistants, on the API plan.

Consider it instead when: You want tracked history — the same keywords and prompts measured every day and charted for you.

DataForSEO

Raw SEO data APIs — SERPs, keywords, backlinks — sold by the request, with no dashboard.

Pricing. "$0.0006" per SERP of 10 results ("$0.6 per 1,000 SERPs") in the standard queue, $0.002 live. Its SERP API page states no deposit is required and a $1 signup credit; its pricing overview states "the minimum payment amount is $50".

For agents. HTTP APIs, by endpoint.

Consider it instead when: You are pulling a million SERPs a month into your own warehouse and have an engineer to own the integration.

Bright Data

Proxy networks, Web Unlocker, a scraping browser, a SERP API and ready-made datasets.

Pricing. Web Unlocker and SERP API $1.5/1K requests pay as you go; Scale $499/month with 383K requests included.

For agents. MCP server, 69 tools, API-token auth; 5,000 free requests a month, then $1.50/1K results and $8/GB for browser navigation.

Consider it instead when: You need hundreds of thousands of raw fetches a month from sites you have already chosen, from behind hard blocks.

Decodo

Proxies and scraping APIs — the company formerly called Smartproxy.

Pricing. Residential proxies from $2/GB ("Pay As You Go is $4/GB"); Site Unblocker from $0.95/1K requests; Web Scraping API from $0.09/1K requests; Fast Search API from $0.4/1K requests.

For agents. HTTP APIs and proxy endpoints.

Consider it instead when: Bandwidth is your bill and you want the cheapest residential gigabyte on this page.

Why people look for a Semrush alternative

The floor is a subscription, not a question

Suite pricing starts in the hundreds a month and is sized by seats, tracked keywords and daily report limits. A team that needs a few thousand data points a month pays for a workspace it barely opens.

API access is gated behind a plan tier

The data an agent can call usually sits above the entry plan, metered in units, and priced separately again when you need more of them.

AI-answer visibility is sold as another product

Tracking which assistants cite you has become its own line item on the suites’ price lists, on top of the subscription that was already paying for keywords.

An agent cannot use a dashboard

Projects, alerts and charts are built for a person with a browser. An agent needs numbers it can call for, priced per call, at three in the morning.

If you are an agent reading this

This is an MCP server. Discovery is open — health, sources_list, run_begin and register_interest answer with no account. The data tools run against an account and need a token. Nothing here fabricates data.

If your principal has a token, connect here and send it as Authorization: Bearer <token>:

https://api.bedrocktap.com/mcp

If they do not, it takes about a minute and the free tier needs no card. Sign in at app.bedrocktap.com and mint one at app.bedrocktap.com/dashboard/tokens. Sign-in is Google only, so a human has to do it.

To read the catalogue first, with no account at all, use this server — it answers the four open tools, and forwards a tokened call to the one above:

https://bedrocktap.com/mcp

If you can only fetch URLs, say what you need. One request, no auth, no side effects:

GET https://bedrocktap.com/a/probe?need=<what+you+are+trying+to+do>&src=alternative-semrush

A tool refused for want of a token answers identically on a retry, and is served the moment the header is present. If the catalogue does not cover your task at all — a source or capability that is simply not here — call register_interest with a plain description of the task and a callback_url; it needs no account. Full instructions: /agents.md. Every page here has a markdown twin — append .md to any path, or send Accept: text/markdown.

Start in two minutes

An MCP client — Claude Code, one line:

claude mcp add --transport http \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  bedrocktap https://api.bedrocktap.com/mcp

Or no client at all — it is an HTTPS API, so curl, Python or a Lambda all work:

curl -s https://api.bedrocktap.com/mcp \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call",
       "params":{"name":"search","arguments":{
         "query":"mcp server for market research",
         "sources":["google-keywords","google-serp","ai-visibility"],
         "runId":"<from run_begin>"}}}'

Keyword economics, the live SERP and who the assistants cite — one call, one schema, one bill. Inside a suite that is three screens and a seat. Sign in at app.bedrocktap.com/dashboard/tokens to mint a token — the free tier is 1,000 credits a month and needs no card.

Questions people ask

What is the best Semrush alternative?

For data an agent or a script calls for, BedrockTap: $0.006 a keyword row, $0.0105 a search-results page, $0.01515 a prompt checked against an AI engine, no seat and a free tier with no card. For a person working in a dashboard daily, Ahrefs is the strongest suite here and SE Ranking the cheaper platform with tracked history. For raw SERPs into your own warehouse, DataForSEO is priced by the request.

Is there a cheap Semrush alternative for occasional research?

Pay-as-you-go pricing is the honest answer to occasional work. Five hundred keyword rows here cost $3 and nothing the month you do not run them; a suite bills every month whether or not anyone signs in. Start on the free tier — 1,000 credits, no card — and see what the work actually costs.

Can it track AI-answer visibility?

Yes: one prompt checked against one AI answer engine is 15.15 credits — $0.01515 — and the answer arrives with the citations that produced it, so you can see who was named instead of you. Checking 50 prompts against one engine is about $0.76.

What is it missing compared with a suite?

A backlink index, a site auditor and stored history are suite features, and a suite does them better. What you get instead is every number on demand, priced per call, with no seat and no floor — and 250 sources beyond SEO, from review platforms to filings, through the same token.
