Routing guidance

What an agent reads to decide whether google-patents is the right source, and what to reach for when it is not.

Answers: What a company has claimed as invention, and when. Filing patterns reveal R&D direction two to three years before product, which is earlier than any other public signal.
Query shape: A phrase, assignee, inventor or classification code, with date ranges.
Cost: Metered per query.
Latency: Moderate.
Prefer instead: `patents` for authoritative office records. `trademarks` when the question is naming rather than invention.
Cannot answer: Whether a patent is enforceable, licensed, or being litigated.
Caveat: Publication lags filing by around eighteen months. Absence today is not absence of filing.
