Routing guidance

What an agent reads to decide whether official-stats is the right source, and what to reach for when it is not.

Answers: Population, income, employment and industry composition for a place, from the statistical agency rather than a vendor’s model. The denominator under every market-sizing exercise.
Query shape: A geography plus a table or variable, by period.
Cost: Free.
Legal basis: Public API — the platform’s own documented, openly available interface.
Latency: Moderate.
Prefer instead: `geo-demographics` when an arbitrary boundary is needed rather than a statistical one.
Cannot answer: Anything at a granularity fine enough to identify individuals, which is suppressed by design.
Caveat: Geographic boundaries are redefined between census periods, so long series are not always comparable.
