Routing guidance

What an agent reads to decide whether retractions is the right source, and what to reach for when it is not.

Answers: Whether a paper still stands. Retracted work continues to be cited for years, so this is the check that stops a citation chain resting on withdrawn evidence.
Query shape: A DOI, title, author or journal.
Cost: Free.
Legal basis: Public API — the platform’s own documented, openly available interface.
Latency: Fast.
Prefer instead: Nothing. Run this ALONGSIDE any citation, not instead of one.
Cannot answer: Undetected fraud. Retraction requires someone to have noticed.
Caveat: Retraction lags discovery by years. A clean record is weak evidence of soundness.
